If you are reading this message, there is a good chance that I am either in, or flying to, Tokyo, Japan.
I have been to Japan once before, for about four days back in 2016. This was after I had been living in Hangzhou, China for about two years, working as an English as a foreign language teacher. Many foreign teachers who choose not to renew their work visas will apply for an extension so they can do some sight-seeing around China. Unfortunately, I was unable to apply for a visa extension, because Hangzhou was hosting that year’s G20 conference, and all the civil servants were too busy preparing for the arrival of foreign dignitaries to do anything else. As a result, I decided to head back to the USA, but due to some scheduling issues I had four days before I was scheduled to arrive.
So, I decided to visit Japan, choosing Osaka as my destination. I chose Osaka in particular because it is close to Nara – a city known for its polite wild deer. I’m happy to say that both Osaka and Nara did not disappoint.
However, four days isn’t a lot of time, so ten years later I have decided to return to Japan for two weeks, with Tokyo as my first destination. I won’t be returning to Osaka this time (no promises that I won’t be back in Nara, though.) Instead, I will be visiting in four cities, starting with Tokyo and Yokohama.
In the meantime, I will still be uploading a comic a week. The comics are, in fact, already drawn, and most of them are queued up for posting. I will also be sharing photographs from my trip in my weekly emails, so if you are interested in seeing them, feel free to sign up here.
