Do you remember this expression? The wide open mouth, pseudo-excitement was a staple of male selfies in the 2010s. Sometimes referred to as “the nu-male smile,” “the millennial yawn,” or the “scared chimpanzee’s gambit,” this expression is most widely known as “soy face.” (I’m not sure why, but it might be because the expression was so often paired with or directed toward a bottle of soy-based nutritional drink, or a box of vegan fried chicken.)
Well, at any rate, I was thinking about it while drawing this comic, and it struck me how similar the soy-face is to the infamous “duck face” expression of years gone by. Basically, it’s an obnoxious photography meme. Mostly harmless, but too annoying to ignore.
Anyway, I think we should bring back the bunny ears thing people used to do last century. That was good and funny.
Happy October! Want more comics about spooky stuff?
